You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You.
Is. 26:3(NLT)
This Scripture tells us that when we focus and fix our thoughts on God, we will have perfect peace. The Hebrew word for peace means so much more than the absence of trouble. This Hebrew word means, “completeness, safety, soundness in body, health, prosperity, tranquility, and contentment.” It also encompasses our relationships with both people and God. He is the complete package.
Stinkin’ Thinkin’
When our mind focuses on our circumstances, we find no peace. Negative thoughts, ideas, and feelings should be a clue to us that we are focused on the works of the devil. Have you ever heard this saying? “No God, no peace. Know God, know peace.” We have many opportunities to focus on the troubles of this world, but where does that get us? It is so easy to become hopeless and depressed about this world in which we live. Thankfully, we can have hope as we look to our Father, God. As we meditate on His Word and His goodness over time, our stinkin’ thinkin’ will change. We will stop moping and start hoping!
Trusting
There is also another key phrase in today’s Scripture reference. Perfect peace will come to all who trust Him. If we don’t spend time with Him, we will find it hard to trust Him. We don’t tend to trust those we don’t know, and the only way we get to know someone is by spending time with them. The more time we spend with God, the more we come to know His character. According to 1John 4:7, God is love. It’s not just that He loves us, but He is love. He loves you. Unconditionally and eternally, He loves you. Even if you choose to never love Him in return, that won’t change His love for you. You can trust Him. If trusting is hard for you, He will wait because you are worth the wait, and He will be there with open arms when you are ready.
The Father’s Desire
God’s desire is for us to walk in His perfect peace, so that we may experience completeness and wholeness. As you come to know Him and His Word, His promises, and His plan for you, it will become a part of your daily life to keep your mind focused on Him. If you aren’t sure where to start, I would suggest begin reading the books of John and 1John. I pray that you will receive all that Jesus has provided for you to live a peaceful life even in the midst of chaos.
